About Dr. Za

Throughout most of my life, I’ve spent a lot of time and energy trying to fit myself into different spaces that seemed to be dictated for other people.

I had the privilege of attending Stanford University, where I trained in psychology + human biology. I later pursued a doctorate in Clinical Psychology, and did my best to integrate an American identity with the conflicting values of my Sudanese father + Filipina mother.

Trying to reconcile the many parts of myself often meant diminishing or exaggerating certain parts of my authentic self, just to feel like I belonged. Just so I could be seen as enough, and a person with “value.”

This led to chronic fatigue, disconnection from my true self, a relentless inner critic, low self-esteem, and a knee injury — the result of pushing myself + prioritizing others’ perceptions over my own needs.

I recognized that, rather than continue to squeeze myself into pre-existing structures and groups, I needed to actively make my own space — a space that would authentically reflect ME.

What I mean by space is the energetic, physical, emotional, and spiritual space we take up in the world. I am also referring to the environments in which we exist.

As a “spiritual being having a human experience,” I knew I needed something beyond traditional tools (as helpful as talk therapy was and is essential for so many) in order to accelerate my conscious wellbeing and journey to honor all parts of myself.

Through the transformative power of integrating non-Western healing modalities, including yoga, ancestral and shamanic work, energy healing, and intuitive/spiritual guidance, I reclaimed bit by bit, my authentic and whole self, integrating and embracing aspects of me I had lost my conscious connection to.

From this newfound awareness and place of increased authenticity, vulnerability, and wholeness, I realized I could be more present and of better service to others, in turn helping others rediscover the best of themselves.

As a psychologist + therapist, I also discovered that creating healing environments in my office spaces was a powerful component of clients’ healing experience.

Because we don’t exist in a vacuum, our outer environments play a significant role in influencing our wellbeing.

Creating more awareness around this relationship, taking up more space in your environment + allowing your spaces to authentically reflect you can further support your individual healing journey.

When the internal and external conditions of your life allow for greater awareness and authentic space, wellness and balance naturally follow.

Whether through design psychology consulting, or spiritual counseling, I approach each client with the belief that they are the expert on their life and are already whole beings. My role is to be a compassionate guide and co-creator on your journey to wellbeing.

Together, we can create greater awareness and space in your mind, body, spirit, and environment, setting the foundation for profound healing and transformation.
